Books about winter and Christmas

Christmas is over, I know. But in 12 months there will be another Christmas 😀 So why not look at the books about Christmastime? (And besides ... you can read them at any time of the year, right?) That's why I would like to present to you a list of books about Christmas that we have on our shelves.

From the book Christmas - A World of Festivals you can learn a lot about how Christmas is celebrated in different countries around the world.

DK's book The Christmas teaches how to make different Christmas ornaments and decorations.

E-mail Jesus @ Bethlehem has been our family's favourite for many, may years. Have you ever thought how would the news of Jesus's birth travel the world in the age of Internet?

This is the oldest book in our collection. Zosia received this board book for her first Christmas ... 20 years ago.

Give Him my Heart is a lovely story of a girl in Bethlehem bringing for water to the animals in the manger that Jesus was born and another girl preparing a Christmas present for her grandfather.

Another book from DK, this time it's a Christmas classic - Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol (of course it's a simplified version for children). It comes with an audiobook.

And another classic - The Nutcracker. Beautifully illustrated and very touching story with music rom the ballet on a CD.

We also fell in love with this simple yet beautiful story of The Nativity illustrated by Juan Wijngaard.

Kids' favourite from the Magic Tree House series:

The kids never get bored with the exciting stories in the book of Christmas Stories from Usborne.

And the last book on our shelf - very funny A Wayne in a Manger, was Jas' favourite few years ago, now it's waiting for Ania.

Animals Classification Lapbook

Last week Jaś has been very busy working on the animal classification lapbook. Lately it's been very difficult to get him interested in doing any kind of project, but to my surprise he has finished this lapbook in just a few days! I am really proud of him. I used a ready lapbook template from the wonderful Homeschool Share website, but I asked Jaś to writ all the information in his own handwriting instead of just printing the prepared text. Skąd się bierze 13-ty miesiąc w roku?

Tak zwany kalendarz chiński jest kalendarzem księżycowo-słonecznym, gdyż jest oparty na ruchu księżyca i słońca. Często jest też nazywany kalendarzem księżycowym, kalendarzem rolniczym 農曆 [nónglì] , kalendarzem Yin 陰曆 [yīnlì] lub też starym kalendarzem 舊曆 [jiùlì]. Czy wiecie, że czasami w kalendarzu księżycowym jest 13 miesięcy? I właśnie w tym roku będziemy mieć taką sytuację. Miesiąc to czas pełnego obrotu Księżyca wokół Ziemi. Księżyc okrąża Ziemię w ciągu 27,3 dnia. Z kolei Ziemia okrąża Słońce w 365 dób, 5 godzin, 48 minut i 46 sekund. Po obliczeniach okazuje się, że jeden rok słoneczny równa się 12 7/19 miesiąca księżycowego lub też 19 lat słonecznych równa się 235 miesiącom księżycowym. Jest to podstawa kalendarza księżycowo-słonecznego, a więc również kalendarza chińskiego. Innymi słowy: Chiński kalendarz opiera się na fazach księżyca. Fryderyk Chopin - lapbook

Po powrocie na Tajwan zabrałyśmy się ostro za naukę. Pierwszym projektem, który Ania zrobiła był lapbook o Chopinie. Przygotowując się do wykonania lapbooka, Ania wysłuchała wielu utworów Chopina, a także przeczytała (lub wysłuchała) poniższych opowiadań i książek o tym wielkim kompozytorze. Znalazłam też kilka pocztówek kupionych przy okazji wizyt w Żelazowej Woli i w Muzeum Chopina w Warszawie. W końcu do czegoś się te pocztówki przydały. Niektóre części do lapbooka znalazłam na stronie Teachers Pay Teachers u Hord Arsalan ( TUTAJ ). Strona tytułowa: Lista niektórych wysłuchanych utworów Chopina: Rodzina Fryderyka Chopina: Z tyłu lapbooka znajduje się oś czasu z najważniejszymi datami z życia Chopina: Jak widać, jak zawsze mieszamy języki, głównie polski i angielski. Ani nie robi różnicy czy uczy się po polsku czy po angielsku, tak więc jej notatki i projekty są również dwujęzyczne.
